About Chamet

Chamet is a 1v1 video chat at chamet.chat for meeting someone new, one face at a time. Here is who runs it, what the name means, how it differs from apps with similar names, and the promises we can actually keep. New here? Start with how Chamet works.

In one line?

An independent web app for private chats with strangers by camera, microphone or keyboard: guest access, free to start, always 1v1.

i.who we are

A small site with one job

Chamet exists so grown-ups can meet somebody new with almost zero setup. Visit chamet.chat, press one button, and someone shows up by video, voice or text. Nothing to fill in, nothing to scroll; only a chat between two people and a skip button for when it winds down.

We built it for the moments in between: the bus home, the late shift, the evening when every friend is busy and you just want to hear a new voice. Around 19,475 people are on Chamet at any one time, enough that a match rarely takes longer than it takes to read this sentence.

Behind the site is a small Chamet team that cares about one thing above all: making those first awkward moments with a stranger feel light. The lack of sign-up forms, the instant skip, the way reports are handled, all of it comes back to that. Anything on Chamet that makes a first hello harder is something we want to hear about.

ii.the name

What Chamet means, and how to say it

People ask about the Chamet meaning more than you might think. For us the name is a nudge: chat, and meet. Two of the simplest things you can do with another person, squashed into one word. As for Chamet pronunciation, we say it "sha-MET", with the stress at the end, but nobody will mind if it comes out "CHA-met" instead.

The Chamet logo is a coral square with a winking face: one eye open, one eye closed, a wide grin and a tiny yellow dimple. It is meant to look like the expression you make when a stranger on a call says something unexpectedly funny. You will see it in the corner of every page and on your home screen if you pin the app.

iii.please read this bit

Who we are not

Chamet at chamet.chat is an independent web service. There are mobile apps in the app stores with the same or a similar name, and they are run by other companies. We are not their website, we do not run their app, and accounts, coins and balances are not shared between us. Nothing you buy here can be moved to an account on another app, and nobody at chamet.chat can recharge a balance you hold somewhere else.

We say this plainly because it protects you. If a person or a page claims they can top up your diamonds or credits on another app "through Chamet", it is not us and it is very likely a scam. The same goes for anyone claiming to be Chamet staff on a call: we never ask for passwords or verification codes. The safety page covers the common tricks.

Looking for the store app with a similar name? You will need to go to that company directly. This site is Chamet on the web, with its own accounts and coins.

iv.how it is put together

Two people per call, by design

Chamet calls never hold more than two people. Group rooms stayed off the roadmap because audiences make people act instead of talk. Alone with one other person you can relax, joke and be straightforward, and you have their undivided focus, a rare thing online.

There are three ways to talk because moods differ. A video call comes first because faces reveal chemistry fastest. Voice hides the camera yet keeps the laughter. Text suits nervous openers and loud surroundings, and a single tap translates a message written in a language you do not read.

Matching is random by design. No one browses a menu of people, you included, which keeps things fair and surprisingly fun. If you would like to see who is around first, Chamet Live explains when it is busiest.

v.the deal, in plain words

What we commit to

We commit to Chamet being free to start: opening matches are free, staying online earns bonus ones, and you always see what coins cost before buying. Calling it permanently free would be untrue, and the free page says exactly where the line is.

We promise that reports reach a person and that blocks stick. We do not promise every stranger will be lovely, because no site full of humans can. What we can do is make leaving instant and make bad behaviour costly, and our community guidelines describe how.

We promise to keep only the data the service needs and to list it honestly in our privacy policy. We do not claim we store nothing, because a service with follows, messages and reports cannot work that way.

vi.staying in touch

Socials, press and getting hold of us

We do not run official accounts on Twitter, Instagram or other social networks, so anything claiming to be the Chamet Twitter account is not ours. The only official channels are this website and the email address below.

Questions, feedback, a bug you spotted or a report that needs more context: write to [email protected]. A person reads every message. The contact page explains which details speed up a reply, and how Chamet works answers most first-time questions.

people ask us

About us, answered

Who runs Chamet?

A small independent crew runs chamet.chat, and private two-person chats are all they work on. You can reach a person any time at [email protected].

Is chamet.chat the same as the Chamet app in the app stores?

No. chamet.chat is an independent web service. Store apps with the same or a similar name belong to other companies, and accounts, coins and balances are not shared. We cannot recharge or access accounts on any other app.

What does the name Chamet mean?

To us it is chat plus meet, the two simplest things you can do with a stranger. We pronounce it "sha-MET", but any way you say it is fine.

Does Chamet have a Twitter or Instagram account?

No. We do not run social media accounts, so profiles claiming to be Chamet staff are not ours. Official contact is this website and [email protected].

Is Chamet for adults only?

Yes. Chamet is strictly 18+. Accounts that look like they belong to someone younger are removed.

Where can I send feedback?

Email [email protected]. Feature ideas, bug reports and complaints are all read by a person, and they genuinely shape what we change next.

Come say hi.

That is really all Chamet is for. Tap below and meet someone new.
